Description
This jade bear is made of fine Hetian white jade, the jade is mild and vintage with part of light brown soak-induced color. The surface has a patina and glassy lustre.
The jade bear opens its mouth, exposing its fangs and pointed tongue. The curling eyebrows stretch out, the eyes are shining brightly. The forehead is protruding, pointed ears, and there are horn-shaped bristles on the back of the head.
The bear is standing in a squatting position, with a pair of front paws held on the chest. It has double wings on the back, and finely carved scale and feather patterns on the wings. The bear chest out, the belly is defecate, the body is strong, the muscles are full, and the joints decorated with curling patterns. There are bristles on the back of the joints and limbs. The pointed tail droops and supports the feet.
This jade bear sculpture is small but rich in details, vivid image, coordinated ratio, full of imagination. All the details of teeth, beard, hair, wings, nails are expressed. They all reflect the superb “hair-thin” jade carving skill of the Han Dynasty. It’s definitely a compact masterpiece.
