Description

Tiger is a beast that represents military power respected by people of Shang period(1600-1046 B.C.). It can drive away evil and avoid demons.

This jade tiger is made of high quality white jade. The patina is mild. The tiger’s body is covered with dark brown soak-induced markings and brownish red hair-thin weathering patterns, which are very clever, just like the color of tiger fur.
The tiger has its head down, looks straight, and has a flat face. The “臣” shaped eyes connected to the bridge of the nose. The drop-shaped ears stand up. The tiger’s mouth opens up to make a roar. The inside of the mouth is hollowed out and carved with sharp teeth. This jagged mouth design is a representative style of Shang dynasty.
The jade tiger’s limbs are slightly bended, standing, full of muscles. Strong and powerful neck, decorated with shield-like patterns. Round back and arched waist, the whole body is decorated with typical Shang dynasty double shade-line curling patterns, cloud thunder patterns, herringbone patterns that represent the fur of the tiger. A sturdy tiger tail is upturned to the back. The tail is also decorated with a double shade-line herringbone patterns. The tip of the tail is rolled into a round hole and can be used for hanging.
